"If we have no peace it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other."
-Saint Teresa of Calcutta
Introducing our 2020 Catholic Charities of Acadiana Christmas Ornament!
From the artist...
After the events that have made up this year, these words from Saint Teresa of Calcutta feel more pertinent than ever before. When asked to create an ornament worthy of symbolizing a year of so many ups and downs here in the U.S. and abroad, there were three lessons I wanted to capture in this keepsake.
First, the words "we belong"... an excerpt from the meaningful quote above accompanied by three white lines and soft blue hues... reminiscent of the iconic habit of Saint Teresa of Calcutta whose mission aligned so perfectly with Crossroads Collective. May this hang on your tree as a reminder to dedicate yourself to always help those in need.
Second, even though each ornament in this collection is unique in its own way - as we are - they were all molded from the same batch of paper. May this serve as a reminder that we are all molded in the same image and likeness of God... no matter how much we may look different from our neighbor. Love thy neighbor
Lastly, it was important to me that they were delicate and soft to the touch, as we have all had to soften and rediscover kindness and grace towards one another amidst the chaos of a global pandemic and world-view changing year. May this be a reminder that no matter the circumstance, may you always meet the challenges in your life with a gentle, forgiving spirit as Christ meets you with the same.
May this ornament serve you this Christmas season and every one to come. It was a joy and honor to create it for you.
Ornament measures 2" by 3.5" and is comprised of handmade paper, letter pressed words, and hand drawn illustrations (each one is unique!). The ornament hangs with raw-edged velvet ribbon. We see these ornaments as "mini-masterpieces" and hope you will, too! We thank Gracie Reaux for her work on these ornaments and her constant support of Catholic Charities of Acadiana.
